Sizzle is My Newest AKC Champion

Tuesday, March 12th, 2024

Today, I’m thrilled to celebrate the achievement of my newest akc champion, Sizzle! Her registered name, CH Cryslen’s Pop It Like It’s Hot ATT, now proudly boasts a well-deserved title. Thank you to the judges who recognized Sizzle’s beautiful breed type and sidegait including Claire Wisch Abraham, Rachal McKee Sager, Lonnie Carroll, and Marissa Clark.

Sizzle’s Journey to Victory ?

Sizzle’s triumphant journey to becoming a champion reached its pinnacle at the Maryland Sporting Dog Association on March 1, 2024. It was a day filled with excitement, anticipation after six months without entering any shows.

Three Majors, One Grand Finale ?

Sizzle’s journey was marked by significant milestones, with her latest victory serving as the grand finale. Over the summer, she secured not one but two 5-point majors with Best of Breed and Best of Opposite accolades from the classes in Doswell.

Maryland Sporting Dog Association: A Day to Remember ?

On that fateful day in Maryland, Sizzle exhibited excellence, securing her third major and officially clinching the title. Maryland Sporting Dog Association is my favorite show and where my first welshie, Sizzle’s great grandsire, Tucker earned his first major.

A Select Bitch toward a Grand Championship: The Encore ?

Sizzle’s journey didn’t end with her championship title. The following day at the supported entry, she continued to shine, earning Select Bitch for a 5-point major towards her grand championship.

Sizzle’s Journey: More to Come ?

Sizzle, CH Cryslen’s Pop It Like It’s Hot ATT, has a nice ring to it. As we celebrate Sizzle’s latest triumph, we also look forward to the next chapter of her journey. The grand championship awaits, and I am making breeding plans for Sizzle this fall.

New Titles for Trü, Sizzle and Cheeky

Monday, August 28th, 2023

This past weekend in Doswell, VA on August 27th, Sizzle and Trü each earned one new title. Sizzle took on the challenge of the new AKC Temperament Test (ATT). She went through the paces of going over tarps, hula hoops, cavaletti poles, grates and latters, and hearing whistles, horns and seeing umbrellas opened. She also saw people dressed in costumes, walking with crutches, and dropping chairs. Sizzle was approached and petted by strangers. She came through it with flying colors to earn one of the newest AKC titles. Sizzle is now Cryslen’s Pop It Like It’s Hot ATT. She needs only one point to finish her AKC Champion title.

Trü participated in Fast CAT for the second time. She’s got the swing of it and did two runs every day for four days. It was hot most of the weekend. Her fastest time was on the second day at 19.59 MPH. On the last day, her first run earned her BCAT title. Now she has two titles at the end of her name CH Cryslen’s No One But You BCAT TKN. Trü is going to continue doing Fast CAT and already has points towards her DCAT title. Cheeky also got to do a fun run in Fast CAT.

The next weekend in Raleigh, Cheeky earned her trick dog title. She loves doing tricks so I wanted her to have the chance to do the trick dog evaluation in person even though you can still do it virtually. She did great with all the excitement of the show and still worked for her treats. Her tricks were shake, high five, push ups, paws up, jump up, jump in a box, sit in the box, spin, find it and touch. Cheeky is now known as Cryslen’s Too Big for My Britches TKN.  She will be working on her barn hunt and scent work titles this fall.

Trü and Merc are from the Queen song titles litter by CH Clussexx Red Letter Day at Stonecroft (Fletcher) out of CH Cryslen’s Fat Bottomed Girl TKN (Fanny). I will share their official win photos once they are available.

Trü wins Best of Winners and Best Bred By Exhibitor at American Spaniel Club

Tuesday, January 17th, 2023

We traveled to Knoxville, TN in Mid-January for the American Spaniel Club Flushing Spaniel Show. Trü was awarded Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, and Best Bred By Exhibitor Welsh Springer Spaniel and earned a five point major towards her AKC Championship. She know has 14 points and four majors towards her championship so she only needs one single point to earn her AKC championship.

Huge congratulations to Lauren and Karen Gaines on owner handling Wynn to his bronze grand champion title start-to-finish showing only an average of eight times a year!  He finished his title on August 28 by going Select Dog/BOBOH in Lake Elmo, MN for a 5-point major against some serious competition. Wynn was tied 13th in breed standings in 2021 and is currently tied at #17 for 2022.  So proud of this fabulous team going out in style.

New Champion Poppy

Wednesday, November 18th, 2020

Poppy finished her AKC Championship on October 28, 2020 after taking the second half of 2019 off and most of 2020 off because of COVID-19. We were lucky enough to have two clusters of dog shows just 30 minutes from home so we entered every day and we were able to get the last of the six singles she still needed after several days of winning in a row.

Poppy - 7 months

Poppy is now CH Cryslen’s Good Girl Gone Bad. We are also working toward her trick dog novice and tracking dog titles.

Poppy is my nineth titled WSS that I’ve either bred or owned and the fourth champion WSS I’ve bred. I’m planning to breed Poppy and her sister, Fanny in March.

Picking Up a New Puppy During Covid-19

Friday, May 29th, 2020

We are all worried about how to handle seemingly normal activities in the age of Coronavirus. Meanwhile, many people are now working from home and it can seem like the perfect time to pick up a new puppy. At the beginning of the pandemic, many breeders were postponing litters because we were afraid that veterinary services might become unavailable due to the shortages in PPE. We don’t want to need a c-section only to find out our vets can’t perform surgeries safely due to lack of PPE. Now that PPE shortages are being dealt with and veterinarians are feeling more confident about being able to provide services, breeders are starting to move forward with planned breedings again, but you still have other concerns that we need to think about in the age of covid-19.

One of the major concerns for breeders is how to socialize puppies when we might not want to invite people into our homes. Great breeders start socialization long before your puppy ever goes home. We now have some guidelines from organizations like Good Dog and AKC on how best to socialize our puppies during this time, but that’s a topic for another post. The topic of this post is how I will go about getting puppies to their new homes.

I prefer buyers to fly or drive to my home to pick up their puppy. In this environment, many breeders may prefer buyers that live within a few hours of their home.

My next litters will not go home until around July 2021. In the meantime, many things could change, but I will come up with a best possible plan for puppy pick up to keep puppy buyers, the puppies and myself safe, send the plan to my puppy buyers a week or so before the puppies go home and discuss it with them.

Here are some possible ideas:

  1. Conduct multiple phone interviews in place of in person visits.
  2. Fill out paperwork and the contract by phone and email before the puppies go home and use an app like Docusign to have the buyers sign the contract electronically. Electronic signatures are just as legally binding as hand written signatures.
  3. Send copies of all documents and instructions electronically and discuss prior to puppy pickup so we can minimize time together.
  4. Socially distance in my front yard for puppy pick up. I can put the puppy in an expen or on a leash to hand the puppy to their owners and have the owners pick the puppy up from the ground.
  5. Give puppies a bath before they go to their new home.
  6. Ask everyone to wear gloves and masks during puppy pickup.
  7. Make sure all items that will be going home with the puppy are in a sealed container that can be sanitized.
  8. Have hand sanitizer available and lysol on hand for shoes.

That’s all the ideas I have for now. Do you have any other ideas to add about how we can make transitioning puppies into their new homes safer for all involved?
