Shimmer is an outgoing girl who is always excited when she gets to do something fun with me. This weekend, that meant trying Fast CAT for the first time at the Richmond Dog Obedience Club trials in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
I entered her in both trials on Saturday and Sunday. She had never done a fun run or practiced chasing the lure, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Jason released her on Saturday, and her first run took 23.44 seconds. By her second run, she had figured it out and raced down the course in 11.92 seconds!
On Sunday, Shi
mmer started barking as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. She knew where we were and was ready to run again. A wonderful volunteer released her that day, and an amped-up Shimmer ran 11.71 seconds in the first trial, then finished the weekend with her fastest run yet: 10.98 seconds. Her four runs earned her 92.97 Fast CAT points.
Fast CAT isn’t the only activity Shimmer has tried. She has also practiced barn hunt and nose work. Her favorite thing to do is a paw touch, which she learned in barn hunt. I love seeing how eager she is to learn and participate, whatever we’re doing together.
We had a great time trying something new, and Shimmer made it very clear she wants to do it again. In 2027, we’ll work toward some other performance titles, too. I can’t wait to see what this enthusiastic girl enjoys next!
